Modesty, Decency, and Propriety
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will." - Romans 12:2
Wylie Preparatory Academys dress code is intended to reflect the school's stated aims to honor God and disciple students. It is designed to encourage modesty, decency, and propriety and to de-emphasize the use of clothing as a significant means of establishing self-identity or gaining attention or social status.
Matthew 6:28-34
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
1 Peter 3:2-4
1 Timothy 2:9, 10
James 2:1-5
The Wylie Prep staff may determine the appropriateness of a students clothing or hairstyle and may remove said student from campus or otherwise discipline any student whose clothing or hairstyle is deemed to be inappropriate. The Administrator or Dean of Character Development may grant exceptions to the dress code, if desired, for special dress days.
All elements of the dress code are in force (and may be enforced) on the academy's campus from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on school days. During that time, students anywhere on campus must be dressed in either proper class attire or proper sports attire. When on campus for any event and not in uniform, students should be dressed in appropriate attire. Crop tops, short skirts, short shorts, muscle shirts, tight-fitting clothes, etc. are not considered appropriate attire. Students should seek to dress in a modest Christian manner that represents the school well.
The academy's dress codes are in place as an application of Kingdom values taught in God's Word. As you prepare to explain the reasons behind the academys dress code to your children, please read the above passages and talk about them together. If you personally disagree with certain specifics of the dress code, feel free to communicate your suggestions to the school in writing, but we humbly ask that you defer to the present practice and speak respectfully of these matters in your home. We ask this for the sake of the Biblical principles they represent and for the peace and order of the learning environment.
